PANEL DISCUSSION EXPLORES TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO A CAREER IN THEATER

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina's theatre arts program is sponsoring a panel discussion exploring the transition from school to a career in theater, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 in the Megley Theatre. Four young professionals will offer different perspectives about working in the professional theater world after graduation, and the discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a brief reception.

Panelists include:

Pamela Adams

Adams is the general manager of the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, R.I. She joined Trinity Rep in the fall of 2010 after several years of working for the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey, making her way from the marketing department to producing associate. Adams also has a background in contract negotiation, having been responsible for the collective bargaining agreements between Paper Mill and several equity associations as well as individual artist negotiation.

Jessica Dukes

Dukes is a company member at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., and has been a performer for 17 years. She began performing at a young age and developed her talents as a singer and actress. Dukes holds a bachelor's degree in speech communications and theater from Frostburg State University and an M.F.A. in acting from Catholic University of America. In addition to performing in theaters across the D.C. area, she has taught classes at Imagination Stage, Montgomery College and Howard University.

Emily McMullen

McMullen is the production stage manager at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, Mass., and Music Theatre of Wichita in Kansas. She has stage managed for several years around the country, including North Shore Music Theatre, Capital Repertory Theatre and Shadowland Theatre. McMullen is a 15-year member of the Actors' Equity Association and serves as secretary of the Boston Area Liaison Committee, a branch of the association that negotiates contracts with local theaters.

Matt Whiton

Whiton is a theater production manger and scenic designer from Somerville, Mass. He holds a B.A. in technical theater from Plymouth State University and an M.F.A. in scenic design from the University of Georgia. Locally, Whiton has worked with the Lyric Stage Company of Boston, the American Repertory Theater, the Huntington Theatre Company, Yellow Taxi Productions, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Plymouth State University, the Gurnet Theatre Project and the Boston Center for the Arts.
