Typically if one or more larger applications are running while you're trying to use your computer, it has a tendency to run slower. If you are running any applications (Instant Messenger, Media Player, any Adobe product, etc.) that you don't necessarily need running at the same time, then you should close them.
Are you using a wired connection, and if so, is your wireless connection active as well? The wireless connection has a tendency to override the wired connection which can lead to complications preventing the user from getting onto the network. If you're using a laptop, simply turn off the wireless connection; there should be a button for that just above your keyboard.
On your desktop, click "start" at the bottom left of the screen and click on "Run." When the box opens, type "cmd" in the text box and click "OK." A black "Command Prompt Window" will open. At this time, type "gpupdate /force" (it is important to hit the space key after the "e" in update. You can then press "Enter" on your keyboard. On the black screen with white letters it will ask you to log off ("OK to logoff?
On your desktop, click "start" and then click "Printers and Faxes." On the left-hand side under "Printer Tasks" click on "Add a printer." When the Add Printer Wizard opens, continue by clicking "Next." Be sure that "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer" is selected, then click "Next." To specify a printer, make sure that "find a printer in the directory" is selected and click "Next." On the right-hand side of the "Find Printer" box, click "Find Now." A list of printers will come up at the bottom. By clicking on "Location," the printers will be sorted by the building you are in. Scroll to the building and select the printer you want to use, then click "OK." You will then be asked if you want the printer to be your default. Select yes or no and then click "Next" and then click "Finish." You should be all set with this printer and should have access to print from it. You can verify this by clicking "start" on your desktop and selecting "Printers and Faxes" from the menu. The printer you selected will appear here.

On your desktop, click "start" at the bottom left of the screen and click on "My Computer." When the window opens, click the space where you type addresses and type \\srups01. After doing this, you should see a list of all the HP printers on the network. Double-click the one you want and it should now be available to you to print from. You can verify this by clicking "start" on your desktop and selecting "Printers and Faxes" from the menu. The printer you selected will appear there.
